In 2015, YUAN XIUWAN, the famous designer of UDG designed and reconstructed this centennial architecture with his unique philosophy and eventually a beautiful kindergarten was built. The design also won the American Archtecuture Prize.
It was No. 42 French Concession in the past, opposite the old residence of Soong Ching Ling and Sun Yat-sen, and the US Consulate and French Consul General were in the west and north. The design concept is to divide the city, that is separating the surrounding buildings from the scattered natural environment, and reorganizing them. The interlaced irregular white walls have obscured the floors of the architecture, thus creating a lateral tension to integrate the surrounding natural environment with the building. The horizontally extending wall belt successfully introduce in the scenery outside the garden with sense of being in the forest. The white provides children with much imaginary space. The spirit of Sun Yat-sen, the great pioneer and the 100-years southern magnolia in the garden are reflected at the exterior wall texture at entrance and a tree-typed window at the second floor to show integration of building with nature by eastern style. The spaces in the building are built around the central stairs with the light through skylight, ensuring that all spaces have good direct lighting and ventilation. The architecture rebuilt from the almost collapsed old building provides a new design philosophy for the stereotyped preschool education construction in China.
